Border restrictions and COVID control measures  (Updated AUG 16th 2022)

Border Controls

Independant tourist travel is not currently permitted . We hope this will change soon.

A limited number of pre- organised fixed itinerary tours are running through a select number of Government approved travel agents. These tours are very regulated and must be accompanied by a tour guide/leader.

Daily entry into Japan is currently capped at 20,000 people / day. This includes all entries including Japanese Nationals. This can have an affect on airline schedules and result in flight cancellations or limits on available flights/seats.

Current entry requirements have been relaxed significantly. For foreign nationals a PCR test is still required ( 72 hours prior to departure to Japan ) , however Vaccination certification and quarantine on arrival are no longer required in most cases. ( see the following web site ). Japanese Border Measures

Covid in Japan

Covid cases have been on the increase with the new BA 5 variant. With a high vaccine uptake, cases are often mild and not require hospitalisation. Almost all Japanese people still wear masks in public, and most public areas have temperature monitors and alcohol hand wash at entrances.

The Japanese Government is not legally able to issue `lockdowns` as happened in many countries. States of emergency have been issued in the past , where restaurants and bars close early and sports events etc are cancelled. So apart from mask wearing, there is generally a free movement of people going about their daily business.

In the event a person catches Covid, they will be asked to self isolate for 10 days.

COVID 19 - Considerations and policy

There are a number of potential scenarios relating to the COVID 19 Virus that may affect Courses in Japan. Here is how such eventualities will be considered.

COVID 19 Border measures

For most countries there is no requirement for testing on arrival, and therefore no quarantine / isolation requirements . In the unlikely event of you falling ill on your flight and running a high temperature, you may be required to isolate on arrival. If possible we will endeavour to accommodate your late arrival to the course ( costs may apply )

Whilst in resort
Testing Positive and Being asked to Isolate

If you catch Covid and are asked to isolate by the local government , the ski association, ski area or The Academy, any lost / unusable parts of the course will not be refundable. Make sure your insurance policy covers loss / unusable parts of your trip/course and any additional costs that may be incurred if you have to move out of your accommodations to isolate . The Academy will do everything possible for you to resume your course after your isolation ( There may be additional charges )
